Micronutrient Testing with a Genova NutraEval

We are all about individualized nutrition at Clem&Thyme and getting to the root of our clients health concerns. The more tools in our toolkit, the better! We have been offering micronutrient testing for quite some time but wanted to give it a formal introduction on the blog 🙂

What is NutrEval?

NutrEval fits perfectly into our functional approach as it can identify imbalances that appear before abnormal findings on standard lab panels. It’s comprehensive urine and blood assessment that provides insight into the functional need for certain nutrients, antioxidant protection, detoxification, diet modification and other therapies.

What does it measure?

  • Malabsorption and Dysbiosis Markers
  • Cellular Energy & Mitochondrial Metabolites
  • Neurotransmitter Metabolites
  • Vitamin Markers
  • Toxin & Detoxification Markers
  • Plasma Amino Acids
  • Essential and Metabolic Fatty Acids
  • Oxidative Stress Markers
  • Minerals

Here is a sample from Leslie’s report in 2019. I didn’t include all of the pages from the report but just a snapshot from each section. (below)

I eat a balanced, nutrient dense diet. Why would I need micronutrient testing?

Studies suggest that even a balanced diet may not provide all of the essential nutrients. Add in certain medical conditions, lifestyle factors and genetics and you get people who are predisposed to developing nutrient imbalances and life experiences that promote this environment. Testing offers insight into nutrient status and allows us to help determine more accurate supplementation and dietary recommendations.

Testing can be effective for people with:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Fatigue
  • Digestive Complaints
  • Chronic Pain/Inflammatory Conditions
  • Migraines
  • Cardiovascular Risk
  • Weight Issues/Dietary Guidance
  • General Health and Sports Fitness Optimization

How is the test collected?

  • Discuss with your dietitian if any medications you are taking could impact the results.
  • 4 days before the test, discontinue non-essential medications and/or supplements, herbal supplements and any artificial sweeteners and monosodium glutamate
  • 24 hours before the test, consume your usual diet and limit fluid intak to 64 ounces of fluid
  • Fast overnight
  • In the morning, you will collect urine samples. If you’re adding on select genomic testing, you’ll also provide saliva samples. You will then take your samples, the NutrEval kit, and the completed requisition sheet to a Compunet location to have your blood drawn. Compunet will ship your completed kit to Genova Diagnostics Lab to be processed. Results will be sent to the provider indicated on the requisition sheet.

What do we do with the results?

We will create a specialized nutrition plan to replete any nutrient deficiencies/imbalances by addressing root causes of deficiency, increasing optimal food sources, and recommending supplements if needed. We are here to support our clients through these plans and provide adjustments as needed!

How much does it cost?

$179 – $380 depending on insurance coverage.
