
In honor of St. Patrick’s Day this month, we decided to share our dietitians’ favorite green food this March. While there’s plenty of foods that are naturally green, the foods that made our list are the ones our dietitians are currently loving the most. And the best part is all the foods mentioned are super versatile!
Our Dietitians’ Favorite Green Food in March 2023:
Emilee’s Favorite: Avocado & Mixed Greens
“The double whammy for my go-to breakfast, which I eat more often than I would like to admit. I love slicing up half an avocado over a slice of garlic rosemary sourdough, then piling on as many mixed greens that will possibly stay on before layering an egg or piece of salmon on top. I get my avocado that satiates me for the entire morning and other great vitamins and minerals from my mixed greens.” – Emilee, MS, RDN, LD, CPT
Emma’s Favorite: Brussels Sprouts
“I love roasting them in the air fryer with avocado oil, balsamic, garlic, and parmesan! They are part of the cruciferous vegetable family, making them rich in antioxidants, vitamin K, and fiber.” – Emma Austing, RDN, LD
Jackie’s Favorite: Edamame
“I make some variation of a stir fry every week, and love to add edamame for an extra boost of both protein and fiber! A half cup serving packs in 9 grams of protein & 6 grams of fiber. It is also rich in many vitamins & minerals including folate, vitamin K, magnesium, and iron. I love buying them shelled for convenience and always keep a frozen bag on hand. Edamame also makes a great appetizer when you go out for sushi or hibachi.” – Jackie Giulivo, RDN

“This is the best store bought guacamole I’ve ever bought. Tastes authentic and it’s so easy to keep on hand and throw on top of so many dishes for some flavor and a healthy dose of fat.” – Leslie Edmunds, MPH, RDN, CDE, CLT
Natalia’s Favorite: Pumpkin Seeds (IG: @go_raw)
“Green is my favorite color so I’m a big fan of green foods. I am particularly fond of pepitas (pumpkin seeds)! They are nutrient dense, but particularly a great source of both magnesium and zinc. I sprinkle them on salads, warm dishes like pastas and stews, as well as steel-cut oatmeal. I also enjoy them as part of a heart healthy trail mix with raw walnuts and almonds, dried cranberries and mango pieces, as well as dark chocolate.” – Natalia Calzada, MS, RDN, LD
Samantha’s Favorite: Kiwis
“I love kiwis! Adding them to a smoothie is an easy way to get a great source of vitamin C and a decent amount of fiber!! Eating the skin, especially, gives you the added fiber to help with a healthy GI tract!” -Samantha Renner, MS, RDN, LD, CLT
