My motto – I have always loved the Baz Luhrman speech turned song, ‘Everybody’s Free” – and I especially love the verse, “Enjoy your body, use it every way you can… don’t be afraid of it, or what other people think of it, it’s the greatest instrument you’ll ever own.” I think the most important thing is having an enjoyable, fulfilling life, and taking care of your body will allow you do more of what you want to do. You were given one amazing instrument, and it’s your job to take the best possible care of it.

My “why” – My relationship with food has had its ups and downs. As a teenager, I used food as a coping mechanism and developed disordered eating behaviors. When I left for college, I was frequently sick and knew something needed to change. I became interested in my health, which included nutrition.  I spent a lot of time researching nutrition, and developed an excitement for cooking and integrating more beneficial (nutrient-rich) foods into my diet. As I reaped the benefits of a healthier lifestyle, I became passionate about helping other people who have a broken relationship with food, heal.

My credentials – I have a bachelor’s degree in Applied Nutrition with a focus in Dietetics from Ohio University. I completed my dietetic internship at Mississippi State University, and am working on finishing my Master’s in Health Promotion from Mississippi State University. I am also a registered and licensed dietitian, as well as a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Favorite indulgence: Chocolate, tea, or black licorice (good black licorice, not like Twizzlers – we’re talking Salzige Heringe)

Two staples always in my kitchen: Blueberries and nuts

Favorite type of movement: Yoga

Favorite way to spend time outside of the office: Cooking and relaxing

Most favorite cookbook or recipe inspiration: I like ‘Chocolate Covered Katie’s’ recipes because I believe dessert is an important part of a balanced diet

A personal touch: I really enjoy exploring, whether it’s traveling abroad or walking around a neighboring town I haven’t spent time in. I love experiencing new places (and foods!)
